Speaking of last weekend being in the middle of a rather boring CQWW CW contest I couldn’t resist switching to 2 m Saturday morning after seeing some DX spots on the cluster showing tropo between the UK and Northern Franconia as well as the Czech Republic. Lo and behold I could hear Peter, G3SMT, with a great 57 signal from IO82kv. Easily worked him after he had finished his QSO over the 1.158 km path. 😎
Interestingly the F5LEN tropo forecast didn’t really show any tropo opening although you can see some “weak” prediction on the path between JO73 and the UK. G3SMT was the only station audible so it was quite a localized duct as it seems. Guys from the JN59, JO50, JO60 area enjoyed a few more QSOs with the UK during the day but except that one QSO with Peter nothing else up here …
